Karen Young -
lives in Cheney, WA, home of Eastern
Washington University. She has been involved as a coordinator in
placing, monitoring, and supervision of International Students and Host
Families for seven years now. Prior to working with NWS and another agency, Karen was employed as a ESL Assistant for the Meridian, ID schools, helping foreign- born students learn intensive English well enough to function in an American classroom. She also was a Family Practice Nurse in both the U.S. Navy and in private practices. Her family has hosted 12 students for long-term placements, and in addition, five students in short- term placements. These students have gladly shared their European, South American, and Asian cultures with them. Many remain in touch on a regular basis. Some have even returned for visits. Their daughter, now a college student, has had many opportunities to grow, learn, and experience differing cultures. She feels this would not have been available, if their family had not become involved in International Exchange Peace Programs, starting when she was nine years old. Karen loves facilitating these opportunities for both our students and other families. Each year she feels as though she is lucky enough to have the experience of “Travel the Whole World From Her Own Front Door”. She would love to help your family have such experience in making our world a smaller, more peaceful, and better place to live |
