Foreign Exchange Student Coordinator Jayme Ellerbe
Ellerbe, Jayme

Jayme Ellerbe is a nurse practitioner and has lived in Alaska for 12 years with her husband, a surgeon and her three children. She has had opportunities to travel extensively through the U.S., Latin America, Europe, the British Isles, and Asia, and has lived in Japan. At her children's insistance they became a host family in 2000, and have had international students living with them since, several years hosting double exchanges. She became an international student placement rep in 2000 and since that time has placed students in the "Last Frontier." Sharing her home and family with international students has been wonderful, and the sharing of cultures and traditions very educational and enlightening. Christmas at the Ellerbe's has since always included their 'extra children" who "come home" for the holidays! She looks forward to sharing similar opportunities with other host families in Alaska as well as continuing the expansion of her own extended family with these teens.

Knapp, Teresa
Hi, my name is Teresa Knapp. I live in Idaho City, Idaho. I have lived here for 16 years, raised three sons in the same house. Richard is now 21, married, and serving in the Navy. Joshua is 20, single, working as a manager of Commercial Tire in Boise. Samuel is 18, and has joined the Marines. My husband and I have been married for 25 years. I have worked with exchange students for 15 years. I began by hosting and then as a coordinator, then a regional coordinator. We have hosted 13 students from numerous countries and have loved all of them. I spent 12 years as a regional coordinator, working with and watching over 100 to 150 students each year. I have loved getting to know different people as well as different cultures. As my boys were growing up; I spent time as a room mother for each, I was PTA president for 5 years and had activities each month for the students in our school, I began a Little League program here and served as the treasurer for 10 years as well as umpiring for all three of my sons games, I refereed soccer for about 3 of those years, I substituted in our school for grades K - 12 for about 8 years, I was chairman of our school board for 2 years, and served on various committees for the State Department of Education. Although I do not have any degrees, there is not much that I have not learned where teenagers are concerned! I look forward to working with you and wish you a very prosperous and blessed year.

Mosier, Christina (TC)

Christina Mosier - I am Italian, born in Milan, and raised in America and Europe. I have a degree in Counseling  Psychology with the emphasis on Special Needs Children; I have been a Social Worker i for 16 Years. I have had the pleasure to work in Adoption, Foster Care and JJA. I had a position with the State of Kansas as an Ombudsman for Foster Families and their foster children. I have been married for 22 years, to the same man, and we have one child, Adam. He graduated in 2006 and is currently trying to fly out of the nest and attend Texas Christian University in Ft. Worth, Texas. My husband and I have a small cattle ranch in the desert of Winnemucca, Nevada and we raise cattle. Ranching is another one of my pleasures. I have been a working with Student Exchange programs fo nearly 10 years. My reason for placing students is the pleasure that I get in meeting these young people and “ mother them” for their stay in America. I can understand their dilemmas and anxieties since I too was an exchange student as well. I came from a large European Country and was placed in a small town of Pocatello, Idaho on a dairy farm. For the first two weeks I thought I was going to die!!! My host family and my host sister finally got me on my feet and started running. I haven’t stopped since. I live in a small town in Nevada, and since we are so isolated from the rest of the Big Cities, I take pleasure on taking my group of student’s on two Big Trips. We go to Las Vegas, Nevada ( Sin City) and during Spring Break, I take the group to Lake Tahoe for a week of snow skiing. These trips gives the students an opportunity to be with other exchange students as themselves and give their host families some respite time. I Love It!!!

Nicole Nowlin is a young, full time college student with a full time job, who enjoys reading, writing, and studying language. I have a passion for travel and an even bigger passion for exchange students. I fell in love with Asia as a child, specifically Japan as a teenager, and was fortunate enough to have exchange students from all over the world in my classes each year of high school. I believe it is essential to the future to foster positive cultural exchange, and look forward to bringing a wonderful new person into your family!

Student Exchange Coordinator Nancy Roberts
Roberts, Nancy

Nancy Roberts - Foreign exchange was the perfect answer for me to be involved with kids and culture, two of my favorite things.  I raised two separate families: six kids the first time, then an only daughter.  Even though I have a pack of grandkids they are not here nearly enough. I have traveled some - to South and Central America, to Europe, and to China but the visits were all too brief and I really admire these kids who come from another country and culture to spend 5 to 12 months immersed in our culture.  Now that my last daughter is here only part-time and off to college soon what better way to have kids in my life than these brave kids from other countries.  I get kids, cultures, and invitations to visit!  At this point I have hosted and/or placed over 30 kids and have new friends all over the world.  I really believe that foreign exchange does contribute to world peace and am always looking for ways to promote it.  I place kids all over SW Washinton and in NW Oregon.  I share my little farm at La Center with my daughter Sasha, our dog Lady Kate, 3 cats, bunnies, goats, llamas and numerous birds inside and out.

Scarr, Sue

Sue Scarr, Local Coordinator for Eastern Idaho, joined us with several years of experience in international education. She works with her husband in a company they own but finds time to place a few students. She loves the students and cares for them like she does her own kids.

Orton Wisegarver Student Exchange Programs Coordinator
Wisegarver, Orton

Orton Wisegarver got involved with International Student Exchange Programs about five years ago, first as host parent and then as Area Coordinator for another Exchange program. My wife and I have hosted for five years, and every one of our foreign exchange students has brought joy and fun into our lives. We are very committed to a world at peace, and believe that inter-cultural exchange helps immensely to reduce misunderstanding and mistrust that are the underpinnings of much of the tension in our ever-shrinking world. In our ‘real life’ we are both very involved in the web-database world of ecommerce, working with companies large and small to provide web presence, product and image reinforcement and web-fronted stores. Recently we have started a non-profit organization to help support a broader set of support services for Exchange Students in the Northern California area, putting together group trips for students to Disneyland, Yosemite, Hawaii and the giant Redwoods of Humboldt County. We hope to take about 12-15 students from the Northern California area on trips this next year, and be able to expand the program to an even wider group of students. – If you are interested, check out our website at http://www.worldpeacexchange.com

Young, Karen

Karen Gabler-Young lives in beautiful Couer d' Alene, Idaho and has been involved with student exchange programs as a coordinator placing, monitoring and supervising exchange students and host families for five yrs. Prior to that time she was employed by the Meridian Schools as an ESL assistant, helping foreign born students learn English well enough to be able to function in an American classroom. She also worked as a family practice nurse for twenty three years in both the US Navy and in private practices.

Her family has now hosted over nine foreign exchange students in both long and short term stays. Her eighteen yr. old daughter has learned about many different cultures while hosting students. Karen loves being involved with both students and host families facilitating "Great Exchange Stays". She feels involvement with NW Services is like "being able to travel the whole world from her own front door"!
