NW Services student exchange programs focus on
cultural exchanges for foreign exchange students of high
school age in order to further cultural understanding.
NW Services student exchange programs concentrates on
high school exchange students who will actually become a
part of a community in the United States by living as a
member of their host family: Eating meals, conversing,
playing, and studying.
In short, these foreign exchange students are immersed
in a new way of life; joining into the culture and
community of their host family. Significantly, this
happens at a time in their lives when many people make
their most long-lasting friendships. Once the foreign
exchange student program ends, the NW Services exchange
students then return to their home countries, bringing
their new understandings and friendships along with
them. It is then that cultural exchange has truly
occurred.

Families hosting Exchange Students add a new
perspective to their family. Hosting a foreign exchange
student from another country in your home can be a real
eye-opener for kids and parents alike. You and your family
become more aware of the parts of our culture that are
uniquely American. Having a new viewpoint of your day-to-day
life, or the typical activities of your family helps to
bridge the cultural gap that often exists between the
American culture and that of our foreign friends.
Hosting an exchange student can help remind
your family that there are many places in the world where
families don’t have 2 cars, 3 television sets and two
computers. An exchange student's presence can remind you
that there are core family values that we do share with all
cultures – love of our families, concern about the future,
joy in our children’s accomplishments and a wish for World
Peace.
World Peace will never occur until we become
a world nation, with mutual understanding and tolerance of
the difference in cultures. Foreign Exchange Students help
your family to understand another culture while at the same
time sending an emissary back to their country that better
understands our culture. Good student exchanges build
international friendship and understanding in a way that
very few other things can.
